EARLY YEARS

Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage at Christ’s College.

To all families, and especially if your child is the first in your family to join us, we offer you a warm welcome and look forward to a happy and successful relationship with you and your child. You are the most important people in your children’s lives and we are committed to working closer with you to support your child throughout their journey in EYFS.

Our redeveloped learning environments, both inside and out, mean that we can offer a range of high quality learning experiences across our EYFS department.

At Christ’s College we believe every child is infinitely precious, gifted for a purpose and morally responsible.

PARENT & CARER LINKS

In Reception we use the SeeSaw app as our primary communication between home and school. Our Reception teachers send updates of children’s learning through the app so you can see all of the exciting things that we have been getting up to!

Every half term you will receive a parent handout which outlines the learning that is taking place in EYFS so you can talk about it with your child at home. You can also keep up to date with what’s happening in our class via social media. Follow us on Instagram @christs_college to keep up to date with all things Christ’s College!

EYFS AREAS OF LEARNING:

The 3 prime areas of learning in EYFS are communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development. These areas of learning are embedded in everything we do. We choose a text each week to focus on and link our learning environment to our new story. We choose texts which are high-quality picture books by authors such as Jill Murphy, Julia Donaldson and Michael Rosen. We link some areas of continuous provision to the text we are reading which allows children to become fully immersed in the story.

TERM & HOLIDAYS

BEFORE YOU JOIN US:

Before your child start at Christ’s College our reception teachers will visit all children in their current nursery setting. This allows children to become familiar with our staff and ensure a smooth transition in September. Teachers will speak to nursery key workers and parents to ensure they have all information about your child ahead of starting school.

FOREST SCHOOL:

Being outside in nature provides a lot of benefits for children. In addition to having access to our outdoor area all day, we provide ‘Forest School’ learning one afternoon every week. Children in EYFS keep their own wellies and waterproofs in school to access. Each week we have a different focus such as den building and making bug hotels. Our pupils love forest school and thrive each week building their resilience and independence!
