Accelerated Reader

Once students complete the phonics programme they participate in the Accelerated Reader Programme up to Year 9.  This programme is nationally recognised as being one of the best ways to select books suitable for you and your Reading Range. Please do use, read and enjoy the Accelerated Reader books we have purchased.

If you want to read a book from home, that’s fine; just check to see if it’s on the Accelerated Reader Programme. Go to www.arbookfind.co.uk and type in the title of your book.

Use your Accelerated Reader username and password to log onto your account. You can view your bookshelf and check on your quiz pass rate, points total and book level.

Book Spine

From Reception to Year 11, each class has a book spine text which the teacher will read to them. From Year 2 onwards, each child will be able to follow along with their own copy of the text. The texts have been to chosen to give children an experience of classic and modern stories, which will take them out of their own everyday experiences and promote a love of reading. Click here to view the Reading Spine.

Reading Lessons 

From Year 1 to Year 6, children will be taught reading comprehension through lessons based upon Jane Considine’s programme. These lessons are based upon extracts from a wide variety of texts and through these the children build up fluency and comprehension skills. Alongside this, we also build time into the curriculum for reading for pleasure, with one session each week taking place in the library.
